Nolah Evolution Named AARP’s Best Hybrid Mattress for Side Sleepers of 2026
We’re excited to share another recognition for one of our most popular mattresses: AARP named the Nolah Evolution the Best Hybrid Mattress for Side Sleepers in its 2026 hybrid mattress testing.
The recognition comes from AARP’s 6 Best Hybrid Mattresses of 2026: Tested and Approved, a guide based on evaluations of more than 50 mattresses by a team that included older adult testers. AARP also incorporated feedback from a 2025 survey of 300 adults ages 50 and older and a January 2026 focus group with adults ages 51 to 69.
For us at Nolah, the award is especially meaningful because pressure relief and targeted support are central to the Evolution’s design—and both stood out during AARP’s hands-on testing.
Why AARP Chose the Nolah Evolution for Side Sleepers
Side sleepers put significant pressure on areas like the shoulders and hips, making the balance between cushioning and support particularly important.
AARP tested the Luxury Firm Nolah Evolution and highlighted its pressure relief and spinal alignment for side sleeping. Tester Allison, a 51-year-old side sleeper, specifically praised the way the mattress supported her body while cushioning her joints:
“My back and hips feel great with no pressure building up.”
She also noted, “It’s very comfortable, and the quilted top cradles me.”
AARP attributed this performance in part to the Evolution’s combination of zoned foams and coils, which provide targeted support beneath the torso and help limit excessive sinkage around the hips.
That targeted approach is intentional. The Evolution uses AirFoam® Luxe, Tri-Zone™ Foam, and Zoned Ascension Coils to combine cushioning at sensitive pressure points with deeper structural support. The mattress is designed with more flexibility around the shoulders while providing firmer lumbar support through the center of the bed.
Pressure Relief Meets Responsive Support
AARP also called attention to another side-sleeper-friendly characteristic of the Evolution: responsiveness.
During AARP’s bounce test, which involved dropping a 15-pound ball onto the mattress, the Evolution received a perfect rating. AARP noted that greater bounce can make it easier to move around and switch sleeping positions.
The Evolution’s individually wrapped coils contribute to this responsive feel while its multiple foam comfort layers contour to the body and redistribute weight. Together, these materials are designed to deliver the cushioning side sleepers want without sacrificing underlying support.
AARP’s testers also highlighted the mattress’s edge support. One side-sleeping tester reported feeling well-supported while lying near the edge of the mattress, an observation reflected in the Evolution’s strong edge-support performance during testing.
Inside the Nolah Evolution
The Nolah Evolution is a premium hybrid built around layers that each serve a specific role in comfort, cooling, pressure relief, and support.
Its construction includes AirFoam® Luxe, a high-density comfort foam designed to provide enhanced pressure relief while remaining flexible around the shoulders. Beneath the upper comfort layers, Tri-Zone™ Foam is firmer through the middle of the mattress for added lumbar support. A zoned, individually wrapped coil system provides deeper support, responsiveness, and stability.
The Evolution is also available in Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm comfort options, allowing sleepers to choose a feel that better matches their body, sleep position, and personal preferences. For lighter dedicated side sleepers, we generally recommend considering the Plush option, while the Luxury Firm model tested by AARP offers a more balanced combination of cushioning and support.
For sleepers who prioritize temperature regulation, the Evolution incorporates breathable foams, perforated AirFoam® Luxe, gel-infused foam, and heat-dissipating copper. An optional GlacioTex™ Cooling Pillow Top adds a cool-to-the-touch cover and an additional inch of quilted foam for extra cushioning.
What Side Sleepers Should Look for in a Hybrid Mattress
A good hybrid mattress for side sleepers needs to do two things at once: comfortably cushion prominent pressure points while providing enough underlying support to keep the body stable.
That means looking for a mattress with conforming comfort layers around the shoulders and hips, plus a supportive coil system underneath. Zoned construction can be particularly useful because different areas of the body don't necessarily need the same level of firmness or flexibility.
Firmness also matters. Side sleepers generally need enough cushioning to let the shoulders and hips settle comfortably into the surface, but the mattress shouldn't allow the midsection to sink excessively. Your body weight, personal comfort preferences, and whether you switch positions during the night can all influence which firmness feels best.
The Evolution was designed around this balance, pairing pressure-relieving foams with zoned support technologies that adapt to different areas of the body.
Another Recognition for the Nolah Evolution
We designed the Nolah Evolution to combine the contouring comfort people love about foam with the responsive, targeted support of an advanced hybrid system. Seeing those qualities stand out in AARP’s independent testing is something we’re proud to celebrate.
For side sleepers in particular, AARP’s 2026 testing reinforces the importance of balancing pressure relief, spinal support, responsiveness, and stability—all priorities built into the Evolution’s design.
And while no single mattress is the right fit for everyone, we’re honored to see the Nolah Evolution recognized as AARP’s Best Hybrid Mattress for Side Sleepers for 2026.
